If yours weeps at the joints, is corroded, or blocks up again soon after clearing, replacing it beats stripping it down repeatedly.

The braided hoses feeding a sink, basin or cistern are the part most likely to fail suddenly, and when one bursts with nobody home the water keeps running until someone reaches the stopcock. Look for rust spots, kinks, or damp around the crimped ends. If the braid is fraying or discoloured, replace it rather than wait, because the hose is a small job and a flooded flat is not.
