A toilet that won't stop refilling usually has a worn flush valve or a faulty inlet (fill) valve that isn't sealing. Both are common, repairable faults that also waste a lot of water until fixed.
Yes. We service both close-coupled and concealed in-wall cisterns, accessing the mechanism through the flush plate to repair or replace the inlet and flush valves.
Most issues, such as running, weak flush and leaking seals, are repairs rather than replacements. We only recommend a new unit when the bowl or cistern is cracked, or when spare parts are no longer available.
There are two different causes and they need different fixes. If the bowl fills and drains away slowly, the problem is a partial choke in the waste. If the flush itself is feeble but the bowl clears fine, it is usually the cistern: a low water level, a worn flush valve, or blocked rim holes under the bowl edge. We check which one it is before quoting.
Note whether it appears only after flushing or sits there constantly. Water after a flush usually means the pan connector or the seal where the bowl meets the waste has failed. Water that is always present is more often a weeping cistern connection or the inlet hose. Either way it is worth sorting quickly, because water seeping under a pan works into the screed and then downwards.
A plunger is worth one honest attempt on a bowl that is draining slowly. What does not help is flushing again to see whether it clears, which is how bathrooms end up flooded, or pouring in chemical drain cleaner, which does little in a bowl and makes the job unpleasant for whoever opens it up. If the water is not going down at all, stop there and call us.
