Common causes are a failed heating element or thermostat, a tripped unit, or a power supply issue. We diagnose the fault and handle the plumbing-side repair, advising where a Licensed Electrical Worker is needed.
A leaking heater should be switched off at the power and the water isolated, then looked at promptly, as it can cause water damage and electrical risk. We attend 24/7 for urgent cases, and we're on site in 45 minutes to 1 hour.
If the tank itself is leaking or the unit is old and failing repeatedly, replacement is usually the better long-term value. For a single failed part on a sound unit, a repair makes sense. We'll advise honestly. If replacing wins, we supply and replace an instant heater from $250 or a storage heater from $500, unit included, in Rheem, Joven, Champs or Ariston. The electrical connection is quoted separately.
On a storage heater that usually means the tank is not holding heat as it should, often a failing element or a thermostat cutting out early, and sometimes sediment taking up room that should hold water. An instant heater behaves differently: it does not run out, it turns lukewarm when the flow through it is too high. Telling us which of the two is happening narrows the fault down quickly.
Please do not keep resetting it. A heater that trips is usually telling you the element has failed and is leaking current to earth, which is exactly what the breaker is there to catch. Leave it switched off and call us. We diagnose the unit and handle the plumbing side of the repair or replacement, and the electrical testing and connection is work for a Licensed Electrical Worker, quoted separately.
With a storage heater, many households switch it on before showering and off afterwards, or run it on a timer, so the tank is not reheating all day for nobody. Instant heaters draw power only while the water is running, so there is less to gain. Whichever you have, switch it off at the isolator if you are away for a stretch, and switch it off straight away if you see any sign of a leak.
