Yes. A stiff or seized mixer is usually a failing cartridge. Replacing the cartridge restores smooth operation and often resolves any associated dripping at the same time.

When one tap misbehaves and the rest of the flat is normal, the fault is almost always at that tap. The usual culprit is the aerator on the end of the spout, which fills with grit and scale and breaks up the flow. A worn cartridge can do the same. If every outlet in the flat is weak, that points to the supply instead and we look elsewhere.

Usually yes, without touching the tap itself. Look under the sink or basin for the small isolation valve on the supply pipe and turn it clockwise, which shuts off that fitting alone and leaves the rest of your water on. If there is no valve there, the main stopcock is the fallback. Either way, leave the tap open to drain and put a container underneath.

Often, and the deciding factor is the cartridge rather than the brand. Many imported mixers take a standard size we can match, while some use a proprietary part that has to come from the supplier.
